Mugafi’s Writeathon: An Event for Writers

Mugafi has always been a platform dedicated to nurturing writers, providing them with invaluable feedback, mentorship, and opportunities to pitch their stories to major production houses like Excel Entertainment, Amazon, Stage, Phantom, and more. After the success of our offline Writeathon chapters, we took it a step further—bringing the event online so that writers from every corner of the country could participate.

With this mission in mind, we hosted Mugafi’s Virtual Writeathon, an exciting event designed to foster creativity, collaboration, and growth for writers across India. This one-of-a-kind experience brought together both aspiring and professional storytellers, offering them a chance to learn, connect, and compete in a high-energy creative environment.

From networking sessions and engaging challenges to insightful discussions with industry professionals, the Virtual Writeathon provided an unparalleled opportunity for writers to showcase their talent, gain industry exposure, and take a meaningful step toward their writing dreams.

Inside the Writeathon: A Power-Packed Event Structure

Icebreaker & Networking: Getting to Know Fellow Writers

The event kicked off with an interactive “Main Kaun Hoon?” icebreaker session, where writers introduced themselves in the most creative way—by describing themselves as fictional characters! This fun activity set the tone for the day, encouraging participants to step into their imaginative best.

The excitement continued with the “Tag & Brag” Social Media Challenge, where participants answered quirky writing-related questions on Instagram, making the event even more engaging.

The Ultimate Writing Challenge: Pushing Creative Limits

At the heart of Mugafi’s Virtual Writeathon was the Ultimate Writing Challenge—a true hackathon for writers, designed to push creative limits under real-time pressure. Unlike traditional writing competitions, participants had to think on their feet, receiving their themes on the spot and working against the clock to craft compelling narratives.

Using VED, Mugafi’s AI-powered writing tool, writers got access to real-time brainstorming assistance, research support, and a seamless collaborative writing experience. Given just 1.5 hours, they were challenged to develop a logline and a 600-word synopsis based on one of two thought-provoking themes:

  1. “Beyond the Final Frame”
  2. “Wrong Place, Right Love”

This challenge tested not just their storytelling skills but also their ability to ideate, structure narratives, and create high-impact stories under a deadline—just like a real-world writing room.

Learning from the Best: Industry Insights with Bharat Misra

The Writeathon also featured an exclusive mentor session with acclaimed writer & director Bharat Misra, known for his work on Ghar Wapsi and Illegal: Justice Out of Order.

Bharat shared invaluable insights on building unforgettable characters, discussing topics such as:

  • Crafting flawed yet relatable characters
  • The difference between toxic characters and toxic storytelling
  • Why secondary characters matter
  • Plot-driven vs. character-driven storytelling
  • The role of detailing in creating compelling characters

His session left participants with practical tools to strengthen their storytelling craft and take their writing to the next level.

And the Winners Are…

After an intense competition, two writers stood out with their powerful storytelling!
